We have lately been reminded that unexpected and sometimes unfortunate needs crop up in our community and one of our strengths has always been the willingness of people to help when and how they can. In that spirit, I wanted to let you know about a few scholarship funds that exist at the high school in case you would like to contribute to them to support students experiencing hardship, both now and in the future. The Silver Lining Fund assists students by providing gift cards for food, paying for medical supplies such as contact lenses, and stocking the HHS food pantry, from which students who are experiencing food insecurity can take food home. Silver Lining is currently supported by donations from HHS staff, graduating HHS Class Committees and parent donations. The Driver Education Fund provides need-based scholarships for Drivers Ed. In our semi-rural community, access to a driver’s license is especially important for our students who need to travel to work, or to help care for younger siblings. This fund is supported by parents in the Dresden community, parking tickets and is always in need of ongoing support. The Student Activities Scholarship Fund provides need based scholarships to students who would otherwise not be able to join our international world language experiences and other trips. This fund is supported by graduating classes and teachers. The March Intensive Scholarship Fund provides need based scholarships for March Intensive experiences. This fund is supported by the Byrne foundation and parents.
If you are interested in donating to any of these funds, checks should be made out to the Dresden School District and can be dropped off or mailed to Hanover High School, 41 Lebanon Street Hanover, NH 03755. Please indicate which fund you wish to support in the memo line of the check or leave it up to us. Most importantly, please have a conversation with your students about your donation and why it is important to your family.
