Hello All,

Welcome back!

We are gearing up for exams. They start next Friday. As a result, next week will run under a modified schedule. View the exam schedule. For those new to HHS, I wanted to alert you to the different rules that apply to exam week. Students are given a large block of time to study and can go home or arrive late in order to complete their work. Exam FAQ:

Where can I find information about exams?

Go to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTE1fkQFdI0RhTU7MCOFuGiX0e_392bFbKAJWVKVAhFuNNegGisc_EAYhsdT7oImEK80rvdDJPFRq1q/pubhtml

This has dates, times and locations for all exams

Do buses run during exams?

Yes! The normal bus schedule runs during exams

Can I come in late or leave early if I do not have an exam?

Yes! We encourage you, if at all possible, to only be in the building during your exams.

Where can I go if I do not have an exam?

The atrium, Caf, Library, Computer Lab are all options for where you can go when you do not have an exam. Some classrooms may be open, but please connect with your teacher before going to a classroom!

Are teachers available during exam week?

Many teachers have set up times for review and have time to meet. We encourage students to reach out via email to set up times to meet, rather than dropping in.

Are breakfast and lunch available at school?

Yes. Usually there is a limited menu during exams because of the number of students in the building.

Can I stay at school if I do not have a ride?

Absolutely! Please see above for locations of spaces available if you have free time.

What if I am absent on the day of an exam?

If you are absent, you should have your family call in as they normally would to report an absence. When you are able, email your teacher to arrange a time to make up a missed exam.

What if I do the HACTC program?

If you have an exam at HHS that conflicts with your time at Hartford, you are excused from HACTC for that time.

Are the rules about parking the same during exams?

Rules are the same for parking.

Sophomore Meetings

Dear sophomore families, your child's counselor has sent emails inviting you and your 10th grade student for a sophomore meeting. As the midway point of sophomore year approaches, it is helpful to meet with students and families in order to preview the upcoming years of high school. Questions? Please contact your child's counselor.

2023 Nature Series Talk

Co-Sponsored by the Hanover High School Environmental Club

Spencer Hardy

Bee Diversity in Northern New England

7:00 pm - Tuesday, January 17, 2023

Hanover High School Library

The HHS Environmental Club invites you to a talk by Spencer Hardy, a class of 2012 Hanover High graduate and staff biologist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies in Norwich. Spencer will be sharing results from the Vermont Wild Bee Survey, as well as providing an overview of the incredible native bee diversity in the region. So far more than 350 species have been documented in Vermont, though new species are still being found regularly, including some that may be new to science. The talk will conclude with a discussion of what we as individuals can do to ease some of the many pressures challenging our wild bees population.

Council Update

This week in Council we continued our discussion on a motion that would require one way traffic in HHS’s back parking lot. Some members felt that, because this is a complex issue that would require the involvement of the town of Hanover and the Dresden School Board, we should not pass the motion and should instead focus on things more in Council’s control. Others felt that, although this is not in Council’s jurisdiction, passing this motion would gain attention from the school board, and it would convey the message that Council and the HHS community is concerned about safety in the back parking lot. Ultimately, an amendment was made to the motion, changing it to recommend that the DSB look into the issue, instead of offering a specific solution to the problem. This passed. Then we held elections for the second semester Assistant Moderator position. Two impassioned speeches were given, with Mia Bagnato ultimately winning the position.

As a reminder, Council is open to all community members. We meet Wednesdays at HHS from 11:00-11:50, so please come join us! The full agenda and minutes of Wednesday’s meeting can be found here.
