Important Dates

12/22- Winter Break Starts!

1/12-1/16- Exams

From Our Admin

Hello!

This week, we implemented the personal device policy. Overall, we are very happy with the student and staff response to the policy. There have been growing pains in some of the classes that used personal devices for good, but we are proud of how flexible our staff and students have been. In the first two days of the policy, we collected over 20 devices each day. By the third day, we were below 10 devices. As of today, we have only had five students receive a second violation of the policy.

Next week our goal is to stay below a total of 30 devices turned in for the week. If we are able to stay under this number we will be providing the student body with popcorn and cookies as a celebration!

Our community has responded to this change in a resilient way and we are grateful.

P.S. The exam schedule will be out before we leave for break

Health Office Notes

We are sorry to say that we now have students with Influenza A in school. This is an early and unwelcome arrival. There are suggestions from the CDC that the virus is not exactly what was in our annual vaccine. However remember that if you received the vaccine the illness will probably be attenuated.

Influenza is a miserable illness characterized by fever, headache, body aches, upper respiratory  symptoms and with children sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. There is also lasting fatigue. No fun at all for children or adults.

Please also remember that it is not too late to receive a flu or a COVID vaccine. They are available at all pharmacies and many food stores have in-store pharmacies now also. We are still mourning the loss of inschool vaccine clinics. It is not looking promising for them to return. The funding has been withdrawn due to vaccine hesitancy and the current political climate.

Thus far your children have been amazing and when we suggest a mask due to coughing or any upper respiratory symptoms they comply swiftly. We keep an open supply at our health room door. We think they remember the pandemic and want to keep all persons safe in and out of school. Please let us know if a flu diagnosis is confirmed as we do track them.

We are bracing for a difficult winter.

Best,
